Placido Domingo to perform in the Dominican Republic
Famous Spanish tenor, Plácido Domingo will sing on June 20 at the Altos de Chavón amphitheatre in La Romana.
‘Cars & Media’, the company behind the tour, reported that this Dominican performance is the only Latin American stop in his current tour.
"We were backing the artist for a long time to find a space in the schedule to perform in the DR,” said the organisers, “and finally we’ve succeeded with June 20.
"Spanish Passion" is the title of his latest album and is a personal selection of Spanish ballads which the artist grew up with in Madrid.
Musicians from the Dominican National Symphony Orchestra and Puerto Rico will accompany Plácido, in a show that promises to be memorable.
The organisers hope to make the show uniquely Dominican, including songs that Plácido will interpret in a way to pay tribute to Dominican culture.
The June 20 concert will be the largest ever at the Altos de Chavón amphitheatre, since
Frank Sinatra and Carlos Santana opened it in 1981.
This will be the second time that the tenor has sung on Dominican soil. The first occasion was in 2002 when he performed at the National Theatre in Santo Domingo.
