In a sweep led by Captain Pedro Clara de la Cruz, the Tourism Police (POLITUR) arrested thirty women accused of prostitution and harassing tourists in Sosua.
The women, originally from various parts of the Dominican Republic and Haiti were arrested after complaints from hoteliers, businessmen and tourists in Sosua.
According to some of the complaints, the women were engaged in prostitution, but also drugged their clients so they could steal their wallets, cameras, jewelry and other valuables.
This latest “clean-up” action from POLITUR comes just after the recent replacement of the National police in Sosua as reported by the Adscene two weeks ago.
Residents we spoke to in Sosua are hopeful that police are now serious about reducing crime and corruption in the area.
