A traffic accident near Montellano on the Gregorio Luperón road last Friday left one person dead and seven injured, after a truck carrying bran collided with a bus. The bus was carrying staff on their way to work at the Casa Marina hotel in Sosua.
Witnesses to the accident blame the driver of the truck for the accident and say he ran into the back of the bus which had stopped to pick up a passenger.
The driver of the truck, Ramon Peralta, alleged that another truck was also partly to blame and that a sudden problem with his gears and brakes contributed to his inability to stop in time.
All injured were immediately taken to the Gregorio Luperón hospital in Puerto Plata while the three most severely injured were transferred to a private health clinic in the city.
