In a long-running debacle, the legacy of the Long Beach regeneration in Puerto Plata has claimed two more victims. The ‘Escape al Mar’ restaurant and the ‘Cosita Rica’ restaurant, both next to each other on the beach side of the Malecon are to be forcibly moved according to reports.
Sources say that they do not have any legal right to occupy the space on the beach, which is Government owned.
Last week, a team of men accompanied by the tourist police removed the kids’ playground area outside Cosita Rica, without warning. The play area previously consisting of old equipment, two swings, two slides, a roundabout and a see-saw, had only been placed there a few months earlier by the restaurant.
Restaurant owner and businessman, Amancio Ramirez reacted by instructing his lawyers to lodge a complaint against the Sub-Secretary of Tourism, Bernadette Abbot Finke, her assistant Elvis Polanco, Juana Batista, Ramon Gonzalez, and other officials of the Tourism board.
