Parents can expect to pay more to send their kids to school, after the Education Secretary, Alejandrina German announced that schools would be allowed to raise their prices by up to 12% for the 2008-2009 school year.
The announcement was made after 1210 schools were surveyed by the education department. 328 of the schools surveyed indicated that they would not be increasing their tuition fees for the coming year. The rest indicated increases averaging at 11.72%.
German stated that any schools wishing to raise fees above 12% would need to approve prior approval from the education department. Any schools stepping outside this mandate would be subject to sanctions deemed appropriate under laws 66-97 and 86-00.
