In the continuing saga of the Benítez brothers’ US$110 million Medicare scam, police last week arrested 24 year-old Elvis Benítez, son of José Manuel Benítez, at the Las Americas airport in Santo Domingo, as he entered the Dominican Republic on a flight from Cuba.
Elvis Benítez is one of the shareholders in various companies used by the Benítez’s to buy land and real-estate with the fraudulently obtained funds.
So far, police have seized more than 50 different properties, including hotels, lots, yachts, motorboats, apartments, a helicopter and vehicles, alleged to belong to José, Luis and Carlos Benítez.
Elvis was been taken to police headquarters for questioning and later released.
It is now thought that Luis and Carlos Benítez are being held in jail in Cuba.
