Cops get tough on right-hand drive vehicles

Dominican traffic police (AMET) now have orders to impound vehicles with the steering wheel on the right if found on the public road.
AMET direct Rafael Bencosme said last week the owners can only retrieve their vehicle if they arrange for the modification to a left-hand drive vehicle.
AMET’s directive is in response to the Dominican Custom’s Agency (DGA) who have recently banned the import of right-hand drive vehicles due to alleged ‘road safety’ issues.
The DGA has given importers a 30 day deadline for cars already imported to Dominican ports, after this the vehicles in question will be confiscated.
